I received an invitation to a party at the National Aquarium, in Baltimore, Maryland. I was amazed. I know that there were over 250 people invited to this party, so I knew it was going to be a good one. another thing that made it so good was the person hosting the party. I know this person very well, and I was excited to go to the party.
The party was planned and organized by Mr. Raduchel. I have so much respect for him. I've also known him for close to twenty years. He's a great guy. January 26, 2013 was the date of the party. I had to find someone to take me. I asked around and a friend of mine wanted to go. It worked out great because my friend, Geoff, and his wife, Trish, offered to take me to the party and stay overnight at their house. I asked Mr. Raduchel to add them to the guest list, which he did. Geoff also knows Mr. Raduchel so it worked out great.
We had a great time and enjoyed ourselves at the party. When we first got there, we got to visit with Mr. Raduchel. Of course, he was really busy making rounds so didn't have much time. We walked around and bumped into a long time friend of mine, Fox. He was there with his date so we talked for awhile. We met up with Mr. Raduchel again and talked for about twenty minutes before he made the rounds again.
I was surprised there weren't more people there that I know. Just as I was thinking that, another person that I have known from the golf course was there. Mr. Whittington, his wife and youngest daughter were there. We talked for thirty minutes or so. I've known Mr. Whittington for close to twenty years also. Mrs. Whittington was so nice too. I jokingly said "I wonder if she would date me?" Ha, ha! Seriously, she's married to a great guy! They told me that their oldest daughter is getting married soon. Congratulations! I think I first met her when she was 12 or 13 years old. It's hard to believe that she's getting married now!
It was a great night at the National Aquarium. Thank you so much, Mr. Raduchel. You have been a good friend for many years, especially since my accident. Thank you so much for everything you've done for me.
Thanks to Geoff and Trish for taking me to the party, and for having me stay with them at their home in Arlington, VA. It was a good time, and I enjoyed being with my true friends.
Mr. Raduchel, you are truly amazing.

Cleveland, Ohio - October 2012:
My friend, Dave, got back into town so I went back to stay with him. It was cool. One night a bike group there planned a group ride and party afterwards. The only problem was that it rained that night. We had a tandem bike for the ride and Brian was going to take me on the back, but we didn't get to do the ride because of the rain. Instead, we went to the bar where the after party was to be held. Brian brought some of my t-shirts to sell and some people bought them. They were all so nice and I got to talk to them for awhile. Even though we didn't get to go on the bike ride, it was really cool to meet so many nice people and hang out. It was a great week.
The last of the news from my trip to Cleveland is that we had planned an early Thanksgiving dinner, with everything Vegan. It first started with me making the "un-turkey." It was a mess to make, and I feel so bad for getting a mess all over the dining room and kitchen while making it. I'm so sorry Kate! Besides the "un-turkey", we had a bunch of really good like sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn and pumpkin muffins for dessert. We planned more but that was plenty! We had the dinner at Brian and Kate's house and had a few people show up for it. Eric, Lisa and their two kids came, and a couple other people showed up. It was cool. I was happy that they all wanted to come. It was a really good dinner and I hope everyone liked it. I've been Vegan for over twenty years so it was great that Kate thought of the ides. It was a great Pre-Thanksgiving Vegan Feast!!
Thank you so much to everyone that came out, and thanks to everyone that made my week enjoyable! I can't wait to get back up there soon. So find out when I'll be there again because I love hanging out with everyone. Maybe we can all meet at the bar that Eric and Lisa own.
Thank you so much for all the good times!

My friend Dave picked me up and drove me to his house in Cleveland. This trip was going to be shorter than we thought but oh well. It was fun and I got to hang out with many people. So all in all, it was really cool to get to hang out with so many friends.......old friends and new friends.
We got to Dave's house on a Friday. Of course we went out that night, and I got to meet some of Dave's new friends. It was really cool. Then one day, we got to meet up with a long time friend of ours, Erica. She had just gotten married about seven weeks before I was in town so it was great to meet up with her.
Dave and I went out almost every night. It was a lot of fun meeting many of his friends. We did a bunch over the first weekend and then Dave had to fly to Arizona for a few days. Well what was I going to do? Well, I got to stay with my friends Brian and Kate. It was cool, but let me tell you more about them!
So I picked up some of my things and left Dave's house to go stay with Brian and Kate. They live nearby and we've all been friends for many years. In fact, years ago when I lived with Brian is when he first started dating Kate. I got along great with her and really liked her. Brian and Kate ended up getting married and starting a family. They now have three girls. Two of the girls are in school, and the youngest is only about 2 1/2. They're great kids to hang out with. I enjoyed talking to the two older girls, and every once in awhile the youngest would hand me a toy because she wanted me to play with her! They also have a dog, Oliver, and he's amazing. I loved him and he loved me! One day while I was alone in the house, I wanted to brush Oliver. He was shedding so I thought he would enjoy getting brushed. I didn't know where there was a brush so I took my brand new hair brush and used it on him. I ended up brushing him for about forty-five minutes and he loved it. After I brushed him, he treated me much differently. If I sat down on the couch, he would jump up on the couch and lay down right next to me and put his head on my lap! I absolutely loved him!
It was great spending time with Brian, Kate and everyone. We made some plans that I'll tell you about in another story!

I love music, don't you? I love it so much that I decided to do a record label years ago. I was excited to do it and I met so many great people. So look back to about 1995! I saw this band play their first two shows. I thought they were great. So, I got to meet them and I told them that I would be happy to put out their very first CD. So we got together and did it !
We were just getting started back then. We would travel to different states for shows, and the band got really popular. Now it has been over seventeen years and that band is still together, touring all over the world. They're really good. The band's name, you ask..........Darkest Hour.
If you haven't heard of this band, look them up online. They are amazing! I still keep in touch with the band and have gone to their shows. They told me about a show they were playing in Washington, DC so I made arrangements to go. I stayed with my friend, Colin, and we went to the show. There were five other bands playing, and Darkest Hour was great. We got to hang out in the room backstage with the band. That gave me a chance to meet with a few of my long time friends. It was really cool. Thank you so much to the Darkest Hour band!
I always try to make it to their shows whenever they play close by. I'm a huge fan of theirs, and I'm glad that I helped get them started. They're recording a new album now so check it out soon. Their website is: darkesthour.info Check it out and find out if they're playing a show near you!
Thanks guys..........you rock!

Well I'm sure that I forgot to tell you about some of the cool stuff that we did. It was a lot of fun. Thank you so much to everyone for a great time. It was so great to hang out with all my friends. I want you to know that I really MISS those events. Like I've said millions of times, I do NOT deserve what has happened to me. I lived a good life, had great friends and I was good to people. I hope that you understand how hard it is to have your life stripped away from you. I sure know because it happened to me, in an instant.
I have friends all over the world, and I just want my life back. You have no idea how hard it is to live like this. Actually, this isn't living. It's terrible. I'm just thankful that I got to hang out with friends, and that I get that chance once in a while. I really appreciate all of my friends more than you'll ever know.
A special thanks to Dennis and Parody McCoy, and everyone at the Dew Tour. Thanks for a great time!

I was lucky enough to go to the Vans Contest in Virginia Beach that weekend. I got to visit with a bunch of my friends and hang out during the contest. It was a great time. So many of my friends were there, and it was a great contest. They had surfing, skateboarding and BMX. So many of my friends were either competing or working the event. It's pretty close to Greenville, NC, which is where so many BMXers now live. We got some good photos with the guys and me too!
It was exciting to head to the contest but there was some really bad news as well. I was really crushed to hear the news that Brett Banasiewicz had crashed during practice for the Vans Contest. Just the weekend before, Brett got 1st Place at the Dew Tour. At the Virginia Beach practice for the Vans Contest, Brett took a serious crash and went down. He had just missed the ramp by an inch or so. He was rushed to the hospital with a serious head injury. It's really hard to hear a story like this because I know what it's like. I really hope he shows improvement and can make a full recovery from this tragic accident. TO BRETT, AND HIS FAMILY: STAY STRONG, FIGHT HARD. I SINCERELY HOPE YOU PULL THROUGH THIS AND CAN GET BACK OUT ON YOUR BIKE SOON.
I got my very first pair of Vans shoes back in 1981. That was a long time ago!! Ever since I had my first pair, I've always had at least one new pair a year! Over the years, that company has come a long way. They still make great stuff but also have great employees, and a great list of team riders. Thank you so much to Jerry Badders and everyone at the Vans Contest for showing me a great time!

Well, it was a great weekend August 16 - 19, 2012 but I'm not done telling you about it !
Every day and every night something happened that made it a great contest and overall great weekend. For Pro Vert Skateboarding, I was up really close to the decks of the ramps. Of course there were many athletes, along with family and friends there as well. I had a great experience though! Most of the athletes were doing TV interviews but one guy finished and came over and talked to me. That guy was Bucky Lasek! He's a great guy. He grew up in Baltimore, MD so he's really familiar with Ocean City. It was nice of him to stop and talk to me for awhile. He's really cool, and very talented.
There were so many people out there that it was almost impossible to talk with anyone else so we left. We asked where the "after party" would be so that we could go hang out with the athletes. When we got to the "after party" venue, it was so crowded that we didn't find any of the athletes. That was a bummer. We were standing outside the front door and all of a sudden there was PLG (Pierre Luc Gagnon) and some of his friends. So we talked for quite awhile and had our picture taken. That was so cool. PLG got 1st in the Vert Class. He is an amazing skater and a great guy. Right after that, a guy came up to me that heard about my story/accident. He gave me his phone number because he works for a good law firm and said he would be happy to see if the lawyers could be of any help with my case. It didn't seem like the night was going to be good but it turned out being great !
There was another highlight of the weekend. My friend, Bill, and I were sitting in the athlete's lounge area and we ran into P-Rod (Paul Rodriguez). He's a great guy and one of the best skateboarders. He was doing a TV interview but when he was done we got his attention. We talked for awhile and I told him the story of my accident, as well as how much I admire him as a skateboarder. His agent was there as well. When Paul had to leave, his agent said he'd be right back. A few minutes later, his agent showed up with one of Paul's signature Plan B Skateboards that he had autographed for me! How amazing is that? He's a great guy and an amazing skater. Thanks so much P-Rod !
Besides hanging out with the skateboarders, I got to hang out with so many BMXers that weekend. Jamie Bestwick, Simon Tabron, Steve McCann, Dennis (and Parody) McCoy, Ryan Nyquist, Morgan Wade, Anthony Napolitin, Daniel Dhers, Gary Young, Matt Wilhelm, Terry Adams and a ton more riders and Dew Tour Staff Members. Of course I'm friends with all the judges for the BMX events as well. One of my good friends was announcing the events but they moved him to the skateboarding events. I really didn't get to talk to him until the last day.
My good friend, Olivia, was there managing the event. She was so busy that I didn't even get to hang out with her. I understand though, and know that she had a huge job to do!
Ocean City, MD would love to host the contest every year because it brings in lots of tourist traffic, and a great event and venue for the whole family.
More about the exciting Dew Tour weekend to continue. Keep reading!

Well I did something really cool and I'll tell you all about it. The summer Dew Tour was held in Ocean City, Maryland those four days in August and I knew several of my fellow athletes and friends would be there. My friend, Bill, drove us both there and we had a great time. We stayed at a hotel on the oceanfront so we could be at the various contests every day.
One of the contests was BMX Vert. It was really cool. Vert is really popular amongst the crow. They really seem to love it ! The crowd was great but the competition was intense. Some of the friends that were competing were Chad Kagy, Steve McCann, Jamie Bestwick and Simon Tabron and more. Simon was in first place until it came down to their last runs and he fell, so it hurt his score. Bestwick rode so unbelievably well that he took first place. They all did really well. Here are the results of BMX Vert:
1. Jamie Bestwick, Great Britain, 92.75
2. Vince Byron, Australia, 92.13
3. Simon Tabron, Great Britain, 91.88
4. Steve McCann, Australia, 90.75
5. Chad Kagy, Calif., 89.88
6. Francisco Zurita, Chile, 89.50
Next up was the Mega Ramp Competition. It's called "Mega Ramp" because the ramps are huge! It's a crazy event but the talent among the competitors is amazing. Everyone did so many crazy tricks that I feel like I'm being unfair giving the results. Here they are:
RANK/ LAST NAME/ FIRST NAME/HOMETOWN /RUN 1 /RUN 2 /RUN 3/ RUN 4 /RESULT
1 Warden Zackery St. Louis, MO 91.00 80.38 89.25 91.63 91.63

10 Napolitan Anthony Youngstown, OH 86.00 83.25 85.75 80.88 86.00
Now comes the BMX Park. Everyone did so awesome. Scotty Cranmer qualifed in first place but unfortunately he was hurt during one of the last runs. What a bummer. I'm happy to say that he's okay though. Great contest guys! Here are the results:
1. Brett Banasiewicz, Ind., 92.75
2. Kyle Baldock, Australia, 92.25
3. Scotty Cranmer, NJ, 91.75
4. Ryan Nyquist, Calif., 91.63
5. Daniel Sandoval, Calif., 88.75
6. Harry Main, Great Britain, 88.38
It was also great to know that the Dew Tour brought Flatland back to the competition. Several friends, including Matt Wilhelm, competed. Matthias Dandois took first place. He gave me his large, cardboard check for $5,000.00 as a souvenir !
The entire contest was great, with unbelievable talent. Congratulations to all the guys and I wish you the best of luck at the next Dew Tour.
That's all for now. Get ready for some more stories about this awesome event. So keep on reading !

Fun with friends in Cleveland, July 2012:
While I was staying in Cleveland, the week of July 16th through the 23rd, friends planned a party one night at their bar. The crazy thing is that I know the owners, Eric and Lisa Zellmer, because I used to live with them years ago. We were all roommates in a house in Rocky River, Ohio. Eric and Lisa weren't married at that time, just dating. Now they're married and have a son and daughter !
It was great to catch up with them at the bar. They both have heard most of the story about my accident but we talked about just about everything ! It was really cool of them to host the party ! Another one of my old roommates was also there. Brian Rybek has been a long time friend. When I first moved in with Brian, years ago, he started dating Kate so I got to know her very well too. Now they're married and have a few girls ! I used to hang out with both Brian and Kate so it was good to catch up with them too.
Brian and Kate are making plans for my next trip to Cleveland, some time in October. We are going to have an early Vegan Thanksgiving together ! I can't wait ! I told them that I have tons of recipes for good Vegan food, so it's on ! We'll have so much fun, and I'll be sure to post more stories on the website !
Thanks to everyone for hanging out, and making my trip a memorable one ! Sorry I couldn't hang out longer, but we definitely will on the next trip. I can't wait ! Lots of love to all of you !
July 2012 fun at Cedar Point Amusement Park, near Cleveland, Ohio:
A couple good friends of mine were doing BMX shows at Cedar Point Amusement Park all summer. Cedar Point is about an hour outside of Cleveland. Dave Schaefer was really cool to take me there ! My friends, Tom Haugen and Trevor Meyer, were both doing BMX shows at the park. They knew that I'd be in the area so they were nice enough to put Dave and me on the guest list at the park. It was really good ! I've known Tom and Trevor through BMX for a very long time. It was really cool to get a chance to hang out with them again. Tom rode ramps, and Trevor rode flatland.
We got to hang out there during the shows, and in between with the guys for about five hours. It was a great time ! Thank you guys so much for hooking us up ! Over the past 4 1/2 years, I've been able to hang out with those guys a few times. Always fun ! Again, thanks to Dave for taking me !
Thanks for the good times, and remember.........ride on !!
On July 16th, I had a followup appointment in Pittsburgh, PA for the clinical study in which I'm a participant. I had told some friends that I had to be there for that appointment. Dave Schaefer, a good friend of mine from Cleveland, offered something that I'll never forget ! He offered to drive to Pittsburgh to pick me up and let me stay with him at his house in Cleveland for a week. So I totally agreed because I knew that we would have a bunch of fun. So, it was on! He picked me up in Pittsburgh and agreed to drive me to Virginia after a week. So thank you so much Dave for the opportunity to do all the stuff that we did !
This was a great trip for me. If you didn't know this already, I used to live in Cleveland. I lived there twice for a total of about two years. I moved there because Dave is a good friend of mine, and he's part owner of a couple skateparks, chenga World Skateparks, in Cleveland. That was the main reason I moved there anyway. The parks were designed by another good friend, Nate Wessel.
The week that I was there was really good. I got to borrow one of Dave's BMX bikes and I rode one of the parks a couple times. I even rode the half pipe. Oh yeah ! At one of the parks, the Kink BMX Team showed up to do a show there. It was good because another friend of mine, Chris Doyle, is on that BMX Team and was there. Not only that but a couple of good friends of mine were just outside of Cleveland so I got to hang out with them too.
Two friends of mine own a bar in Cleveland and threw a party one night, which Dave organized because I'd be in town. It was a nice reunion of old friends !
This trip was a week long but I'm doing another trip up there soon. The next trip will be longer. So Cleveland, get ready to have some fun and tons of stories on the website!
Thank you, especially to Dave and to all my friends in the Cleveland area that made it so much fun for me. You guys are great ! Keep checking this website to find out more !
I know that the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland, so Rock On !

Saturday, June 16, 2012:
I did something really cool that day! It was a little different than what I've usually done these past few years!
I went to a golf tournament at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, in Lake Manassas, VA. It's a private golf club, just outside of Washington, D.C., where I had been a caddie since 1992. They were holding a member-member tournament, with each team consisting of two members that competed against the other two-somes! It's a very difficult golf course so the competition was intense.
Not only do the players need to have knowledge and experience, but as a caddie you really have to have knowledge of the course and a great deal of experience. I've caddied in many golf tournaments, including two of the President's Cup Tournaments that Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Sang and many other Pro Golfers played. Besides the club members, I've caddied for many famous people including Vince Gil, John Elway, Michael Jordan, President Bill Clinton, Joe Gibbs, Dr. J. (Julius Irving) and many more! If I don't say so myself, I was a very good caddie! Members would call me personally to set up their play times to ensure I would be able to caddie for them. I knew everything about the course! A good caddie makes the player good! I knew how far they needed to hit the ball, where to aim and I was good at reading the greens. The members listened to me and trusted my knowledge! Three of the club members actually came to California to visit me in the hospital, and many others called and emailed.
When I used to caddie for tournaments like the member-member tournament, I really felt like I was part of the team. If one of my "teammates" lost a hole, it really hurt me. I really worked hard to help my members win, and we won many!
It was good to be back out the golf club and visit with the other caddies. I'm just sorry that I couldn't be a caddie for one of the teams. I know so many of the members that were competing. I'm so thankful that I got to learn so much about golf and so many of the players. It made me a better person.
Thanks to Kurt and all the caddies for visiting with me! I'll be back to Robert Trent Jones Golf Club on July 30th for the Caddie-Member Tournament and banquet. I hope that I can caddie again soon!

On Saturday, April 28, 2012, I had a very good day! It just so happened that some friends of mine were in the area doing shows at Busch Gardens. The Action Sports Association had several Pro BMX riders and Pro Skateboarders putting on shows for the massive crowds. For the third year in a row, I was able to go to Busch Gardens and hang out with many of my old friends! It was a great time!
On the BMX side of the show, it was Austin Coleman, Jimmy Walker, Trevor Meyer, John Parker and Simon Tabron. On the Skateboard side, it was Sandro Diaz, Lincoln Ureda, Anthony Furlong and Bucky Lasek. It was great although the weather became a problem after the first show. The crowd got louder and louder as the competitors did more and more tricks!
It was really great to hang out with so many old friends. Those guys do shows for ASA and other organizers throughout the year. I hope to meet up with them again at another show!
A lot of the work I did all over the world was for ASA. It was great to travel with the athletes like these guys.
Check out their shows! If you make it to one of them, tell them I told you to go. They would appreciate that. Maybe I'll be at one of the next shows that you attend!

What did you do on April 14, 2012? Anything good? Well, I did! I went to Keith King's Trans Jam BMX Contest in Charlotte, NC. This was a great contest. Keith and his wife, Dani, have been doing these contests for years. This contest was the first one this year that I got to go experience.
Last year, they held the Trans Jam BMX Contests and I managed to get to a few of them. Great times! This year, the contests planned should be bigger and even better! Keith and Dani have several sponsors lined up to help with prizes. So trust me, if you get a top placing, you'll get a bunch of good prizes!
At the contest in Charlotte, there were a lot of my friends there. When I say friends, I mean some of the top pros in BMX. Some of the best flatlanders were there, as well as some of the best park riders. It was great. There were competitors from all age groups, including a six year old. Of course, his dad is a top pro too! It's crazy how good that young kid did. It was a great event for competitors and spectators!
I strongly suggest that you check out the Trans Jam website and see where the 2012 events will be hosted. I highly recommend going! You'll get to see and meet some of the best Pro BMX-ers, and they're some of the nicest guys - I promise!
For results of the contests, check out their website! I usually stay away from the results because, for over ten years, I was a judge for all BMX Contests all over the world. I could always back up my scores with notes that I took during the competition. It was very stressful since most of the guys were friends but they respected my scores and comments, knowing that I was being nothing but fair. The judges at the Trans Jam events are usually Pro BMX-ers that made the trip to enjoy the contest.
Make it a point to travel to one of the Trans Jam BMX Contests. You won't be sorry you did. Take it from this old BMX-er!
